Project:
The Rostering system, designed for use in the "Wrest Point" Casino in Hobart, Tasmania, was designed to be a state-of-the-art system. Touch screens located around the casino enabled staff to clock on and off, enter information and retrieve their rostering details. IBDC, the company creating the rostering system, approached us about creating the Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the system.
Our Brief:
- provide a "spiffy" looking front end to the database - although IBDC was creating the Database Application, they wanted partnership with GUI specialists that had knowledge in touch screens. We provided that knowledge (and the artwork).
- assist in designing the database - although initially the scope of our involvement was limited to the GUI, things often change. With the goal of providing an easy-to-use interface, we communicated often with the database designers and eventually ended up assisting with the design of the database system.
Interesting Bits:
- our changing role - we were hired just to provide the GUI but ended up designing the on-line system.
- pushing the limits - we were able to coax Oracle Forms into performing above its own design limitations.
